DR. DAVID REITTER, MD, GENERAL SURGERY JOINS THE
DEER RIVER HEALTHCARE CENTER

Dr. David Reitter, a board-certified surgeon and a visiting surgeon to the Deer River HealthCare Center for the past two years, has made the exciting decision to officially join the DRHC team on a full-time basis. Dr. Reitter explains, "I have worked in several facilities in my nine years of practice and the teamwork and positive atmosphere of the Deer River HealthCare Center is the most patient-friendly practice environment I have worked in. I have made the choice to commit my full energy to DRHC, for this decision allows me to stay true to my philosophy of personalized surgical healthcare." Originally from the Twin Cities, Dr. Reitter attended medical school at the University of South Dakota School of Medicine in Vermillion, SD. He went on to do his residency training in General Surgery at St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois. He has been in practice for nine years in several smaller communities. Initially starting practice in northern Indiana for two years he then decided to return home to Minnesota where he has spent the last seven years in Grand Rapids. As a general surgeon, Dr. Reitter’s surgical practice includes flexible endoscopy i.e. (gastroscopy and colonoscopy), breast surgery including the treatment of breast cancer, hernia, gallbladder, colon and small bowel surgery. He enjoys the hands-on, personal interaction involved with surgery and states, "I feel fortunate to work with an organization which shares in one essential vision, to provide quality, compassionate healthcare for life. The small setting at Deer River allows me to get to know the patient as a person. Everybody has a story and I feel honored to be part of a patient’s life experience." Mathias Salmela, RN, CNOR, CCRN and Director of Surgical Services at DRHC states, “I am very pleased to have Dr. Reitter on our staff to allow us to offer full time, Monday through Friday General Surgery services. The patients we serve deserve access to our general surgeons on a full time basis. Our surgery program will benefit on many levels from the addition of Dr. Reitter. Our patients will no longer need to travel for their screening endoscopy or elective surgery. All of their surgical care needs can be met at one convenient location, at DRHC.” In his spare time Dr. Reitter enjoys spending time with his wife and three children. He can also be found outdoors involved with a vast array of hunting, fishing, and sporting activities. On July 1, 2009, Dr. Reitter began seeing patients at DRHC on a full-time basis. He looks forward to providing care to new patients, and continuing the relationships he has made with patients he has met over the last seven years.
