DRHC Hosts Volunteer Tea Deer River, MN (April 25, 2006) - On April 25th, Deer River HealthCare Center (DRHC) honored its volunteers with a formal celebration at Comstock Court Senior Apartments. The annual "Volunteer Tea" treated attendees to crustless sandwiches and an assortment of fruit and sweets.Speakers at the Tea included DRHC CEO Jeffry Stampohar, DRHC Laboratory Medicine Manager Matthew Samuelson, DRHC volunteer coordinator Teri Perrington, and the Director of Itasca Hospice Partners, Barb Arbour. Perrington estimates about 86 people volunteer at DRHC on at least an annual basis. For those who want work experience or to interact one-on-one with patients and residents, the volunteer program offers a full spectrum of training and involvement. "There is no end to the energy of this small group of men and women," stated Perrington. "We have a lot to be proud of." Perrington is speaking of community members like George Kuschner. As a Comstock Senior Apartments resident, Kuschner has volunteered since 1995. He enjoys woodworking, cooking and gardening. He has another job as well: making people laugh. Between telling Ole and Lena jokes and old fishing stories, Kuschner has a great deal to say about DRHC. "We have a real good hospital and a great (volunteer) manager in Teri Perrington," said Kuschner. "Folks have their priorities pretty well squared away in this town, but Iım too busy helping out to become a volunteer," he added with a wink. "We are especially grateful to the Deer River community for their ongoing dedication and volunteerism." Stated CEO Jeffry Stampohar. "We recognize the impact a volunteer can have on our patients and long-term residents, helping improve quality of life and showing compassion." Stampohar expressed his gratitude to the volunteers in attendance. His speech was met by applause. "Our program works in coordination with all the services at DRHC. It is open to every community member at every level," stated Perrington. "We want the experience to be beneficial for both parties."
