Deer River HealthCare Center Welcomes New Cardiovascular Sonographer Deer River, MN (February 21, 2006) - Deer River HealthCare Center (DRHC) has made cardiovascular disease testing more comfortable, convenient and service friendly with the addition of Melanie Church, Cardiovascular Sonographer, and the purchase of new state-of-the art cardiovascular ultrasound equipment. Church, a Deer River native, was excited to return to the area, bringing with her over 6 years of experience in the field of sonography. "The new convenience to the patient is unbelievable," stated Church. "Patients would previously have to travel to Duluth for a service that they can now get close to home." According to the American Heart Association, cardiovascular disease is still the leading cause of death among both men and women in the U.S. "Proper diagnosis is the first step to obtaining treatment," stated Church. Church performs tests to diagnose cardiac or vascular diseases such as deep vein thrombosis or blood clots. Testing is painless and noninvasive. "We use the term 'cardiovascular ultrasound' to describe a range of tests that use ultrasound technology to image the heart and the vascular system of the body," Church explained. "It's important to see your doctor first to determine your risk factors and to order the appropriate test." "We are pleased to welcome Melanie Church to Deer River HealthCare Center," stated Jeffry Stampohar, CEO. "Deer River HealthCare Center knows how important quality, convenient care is to the communities we serve. With the addition of cardiovascular ultrasound services, we are making cardiac care even more accessible to our patients." Cardiovascular ultrasound service comes as a welcome addition to a full range of cardiac services, including the latest available diagnostic tools and an individually designed Cardiac Rehabilitation Program, where trained cardiac nurses assist recovering cardiac patients in achieving and maintaining healthy lifestyles. "Cardiovascular ultrasound is an essential, noninvasive diagnostic tool," stated Angela Olson, DRHC Director of Patient Care. "We are extremely excited to offer this readily available service to our patients. We hope it will assist in diagnosing cardiac and vascular issues before they become more serious, thus serving as a preventative measure for overall cardiac health." DRHC offers comprehensive diagnostic services, using the latest technology available. Cardiac and vascular testing is available by appointment only, 5 days a week.
