New Silverline Bus Serving Deer River and Surrounding Communities
Deer River, MN - There's a new bus in town. After transporting seniors and disabled persons for over 180,000 miles since 1998, the old #1 Silverline Bus was retired and turned its keys over to the newest member of Deer River HealthCare Transportation Services: A brand new, burgundy striped Silverline Bus. The new bus, which is one of three buses that runs daily routes within a 70-mile radius, will continue to serve Deer River and its rural communities by transporting area seniors and disabled persons. Since starting its transportation services in 1985, Deer River HealthCare Center's Silverline Bus System has clocked over one million miles.
Because the other DRHC buses have up to date handicap accessibility and offer a comfortable ride for their wheelchair passengers, the new #1 will be used for passengers who are fragile but still walk. There is comfortable seating available up front and wheelchair access in the rear.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation granted 80% of funding for the new bus. The remaining portion was provided by Deer River HealthCare Center.
"Our Silverline Bus System has been a contributing factor in keeping area seniors and disabled persons active in the community," Commented Renee Donnelly, Director of DRHC Transportation Services. "The Silverline bus transports area seniors and disabled persons to medical appointments. We also provide transportation for these people to area stores and social centers to help them maintain an independent lifestyle."
