Community Attends Deer River HealthCare Center Fundraiser
The Deer River HealthCare Center employees and community volunteers held their First Annual “DRHC Shindig” fundraiser. The Blueberry Bowl in Deer River generously donated their property and volleyball courts for the event. The summer "DRHC Shindig" offered the surrounding communities a day filled with a volleyball tournament, live music, and BBQ.
The weather couldn’t have been a better fit for the all-day volleyball tourney and BBQ. Volleyball spectators witnessed many close matches as there proved to be stiff competition among the aggressive volleyball teams. After a long day of playing time, the Kill Quartets managed to take home first place, securing their free entry into the 2010 2nd Annual “DRHC Shindig” volleyball tourney along with free t-shirts. The diverse collection of live music from The Brass Monkeys, Grock, Maybe Saints, Skaja Family Band, Take the Fall, STINT/Joel Brockway Band, Huda Thunkit and Underground til Sundown added an upbeat finale to the “DRHC Shindig”.
Katie Troumbly, RN and Assistive Services Director at DRHC stated, “Our initial goal was to provide a fun event for area citizens to enjoy as well as, raise funds to benefit the DRHC Foundation. We were very pleased with the support of our surrounding communities. The generous contributions of local businesses made the entire event a success.”
