Deer River HealthCare Breaks New Ground! On Wednesday, July 11th, black rain clouds parted to reveal sunny skies over Deer River HealthCare Center's Expansion Project groundbreaking ceremony. Nearly 100 employees from DRHC and the Duluth Clinic-Deer River gathered alongside board members and guests while Chief Executive Officer Jeff Stampohar addressed the group. Stampohar said, "We thank you for being here to mark this important day for our organization. We could not be building this new addition without you." He later added, "This groundbreaking ceremony marks the culmination of a tremendous amount of planning by our entire team, our board of directors, DSGW Architects, and Kraus Anderson, our general contractor." Pastor Dwight Rudquist from Bethany Lutheran Church in Deer River delivered a prayer for the ceremony. Then Stampohar invited everyone in attendance to take a shovel and step onto the site of DRHC's future addition to help break ground. Deer River Mayor John O'brien and District 1 commissioner Lori Dowling were among many of DRHC's guests who participated in the reception that followed. According to Steve Larson, Chief Financial Officer, the DRHC expansion will accommodate a significant growth in services, technology and new patients. The 50,000 square foot expansion, which is slated for completion in 2008, will house new surgical suites, a birthing center, private patient rooms and comfortable spaces for every DRHC patient. In the coming months, the East entrance of the facility will be temporarily closed and all patients will enter through the West entrance. There will be signs posted to redirect visitors throughout the healthcare center and the clinic. For the latest DRHC construction updates, call 218-246-3073.
