New Expansion Public Open House Deer River HealthCare Center held their "new expansion" public open house for the surrounding communities on August 14. The afternoon event attracted a significant number of inquiring citizens. As the sweet smell of cotton candy, strawberry shortcake and root beer floats flowed through the air, CEO, Jeff Stampohar along with other community leaders entertained the crowd by volunteering their time on the dunk tank. Tours of the new expansion, a variety of children’s games and door prizes were also part of the fun.Pride and excitement are just a few of the many emotions expressed by surrounding community members in regard to DRHC’s new hospital expansion. Statements conveyed by local residents following the community open house included, "Wow, I can’t believe this is little Deer River, I never thought we [Deer River area] would ever have a hospital this nice!" and “Can we reserve the delivery rooms, they are so amazing!” According to Steve Larson, Chief Financial Officer, the DRHC expansion will accommodate a significant growth in services, technology and new patients. The 50,000 square foot expansion houses a state-of-the art surgical center, spacious hospital wing, labor, delivery, recovery and post partum care (LDRP) unit and comfortable patient rooms for every DRHC patient. The new expansion also includes relaxing waiting areas and convenient parking with a common entrance to the hospital, surgery center and SMDC – Deer River clinic. A drive up rotunda provides for easy patient drop off and pick up with a private exit for post-operative patients. With the "Continuing the Vision" capital campaign underway, dedicated DRHC board members, employees, volunteers and community members have joined together to demonstrate their incredible support through various fundraising activities. To date, the following benefits have taken place and accumulated amazing dollar amounts: a coin drive, gift basket on-line silent auction, motorcycle ride, employee PTO vacation raffle, a variety of bake sales and numerous pancake breakfast sales. Motivated DRHC employees and volunteers will continue the excitement by carrying out multiple fundraisers throughout the next few months. Though the capital campaign will last for three years, DRHC's major fundraising and pledge drive will wrap up in October. A goal of $600,000 is set to complete the finishing touches of the contemporary, innovative expansion in areas such as a MRI room, chapel, education and community center and landscaping. From the start, there has been an impressive response to DRHC's "Continuing the Vision" Capital Campaign. The tremendous support of the employees, volunteers and community members demonstrates the strong efforts linking back to a basic, yet ambitious goal formed more than 40 years ago, to provide the area with quality health care close to home.
