Deer River HealthCare Center Hosts Women's Heart Health Luncheon and Tour
The Deer River HealthCare Center (DRHC) Women's Heart Health Luncheon and Tour attracted close to 50 women from the Deer River area Thursday, March 24. Dr. Nizar Saleh, Cardiologist with St. Mary's/Duluth Clinic (SMDC) was the featured speaker at the Noon luncheon hosted in the Goodall Resource Center at DRHC. Tours followed of DRHC's newly renovated and expanded cardiac rehab services. Also speaking at the luncheon was Dr. Pernille Ottosen, Family Practice, Deer River Clinic.
According to Jean Qual, a cardiac services patient at DRHC, "Dr. Saleh and Dr. Ottoson presented very valuable information - I really hope they have more educational programs in the future. We were also treated to a delicious heart healthy lunch and goodies."
Dr. Saleh gave an informative and humorous presentation about women's heart health, risk factors, exercise, and healthy eating. Dr. Ottosen focused on hormone replacement therapy and its impact on heart health and holistic medicine.
"The great response from the community to our luncheon and tour reassures us that our continuous commitment to educational programs and patient services is important - we plan to do more," said Jeffry Stampohar, Deer River HealthCare Center CEO. "We are very pleased with the success of our cardiac rehab services and the commitment of our staff."
Participants also toured the cardiac rehab services facility at DRHC. DRHC offers cardiac services including a full range of diagnostic testing and rehabilitation. Diagnostic services include: stress testing, electrocardiograms, nuclear medicine scans, echocardiograms, and non-invasive vascular studies. Cardiac Rehabilitation, Phases I, II, and III are individually designed, medically supervised programs for recovering cardiac patients. Trained cardiac nurses assist patients in achieving and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
"I am very happy the cardiologists are able to come to DRHC. It is very helpful to us cardiac patients, less travel and easier scheduling. Our doctors at the clinic are very good also - always on top of things," said Qual. "I'm impressed with the nurses in cardiac rehab - they are very professional and watchful. They take good care of us."
According to Angie Olson, DRHC, clinical nurse educator, "The good health of our patients is our top priority - we treat them like family."
