Deer River HealthCare Center Reveals Hospital Expansion Plan

Deer River HealthCare Center (DRHC) recently announced plans for the largest hospital renovation plan in its 46 year history. The 18-month expansion project, scheduled to begin this spring, is budgeted at approximately $10.5 million.
"DRHC has always been very proud of its history, which is rooted in Deer River and its surrounding communities," stated DRHC Chief Executive Officer, Jeff Stampohar. "We are especially pleased to present these plans to the people who have supported us all these years."
The expanded facility will feature a new, state of the art surgery center, complete with new operating suites, procedure rooms, pre-operative rooms and post-operative care units.
The surgery center will be adjacent to a new hospital wing with private patient rooms, hospice quarters and a new labor, delivery and post partum recovery (LDPR) unit. Each LDPR room will be equipped with everything a laboring mother and her new born baby need in one space.
In addition, the plans include comfortable patient waiting areas and convenient parking with a common entrance to the clinic, hospital and surgery center. A new drive up rotunda will provide convenient drop off and pick up, along with a private exit for post-operative patients.
"By updating our facility with more space and new equipment, we will continue to attract and attain qualified physicians and specialists. It will also allow us to expand our spectrum of services, ultimately improving the care we provide to new and existing patients," Stampohar said.
According to Kraus Anderson, the general contractor for the expansion, the finished space will measure approximately 50,000 square feet over two levels.
"Kraus Anderson is looking forward to getting started on the project. We anticipate getting rolling as soon as weather conditions are appropriate this spring," said Clinton Gronhovd, Project Manager.
Although the construction plan is still in the early stages, DRHC has partnered with DSGW Architects, which is nearing completion of the architectural design.
A reported $7.75 million in Revenue Bonds for the project was secured through American Bank of Grand Rapids with participation from other area banks. Another $1.5 million was received through a grant from the Blandin Foundation in March, 2005.
"This is an exciting project for DRHC and for the Town of Deer River," said Stampohar. "As always, we will look to our staff, providers and our community to get involved.
